| If you are interested in having a semen analysis performed, the quickest option is to obtain a referral from your GP, who can send you up to us for the analysis.
The cost of the analysis is listed on our Cost List; a Medicare rebate is available for this procedure, provided you have a valid referral.
The results of the analysis will be mailed to your referring doctor in approximately 10 days.
Appointment Times & Procedures
Our lab is available to take semen analysis appointments Tuesday mornings between 8:30 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. and Wednesday afternoons between 3:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m.
You are welcome to produce the sample at home, provided you can get the sample to us within 40 minutes of producing. When transporting the sample, body-temperature is best.
It is best to abstain for 2-3 days before producing the sample, but no more than 5-6.
Regardless of whether you plan to produce the sample at home or at Hunter IVF, you will need to make a booking, so we can ensure we have lab staff available to perform the analysis.
If your Hunter IVF specialist or GP has not provided you with a speciman jar to collect the sample, you can obtain one either from our reception staff, or from your local chemist. If you obtain the speciman jar from your local chemist, please be aware we require all samples to be accompanied by a Collection Information Form.
