Hunter IVF recognises that infertility and reproductive loss can be emotionally debilitating and can have an enormous impact on one's life at many levels. Our counsellor provides psychological support and services to all Hunter IVF patients.

Our counsellor is a social worker with specialised skills and experience in the field of infertility and reproductive grief and loss and couples counselling. She is a member of the Australian and New Zealand Infertility Counsellors Association and approved under the Infertility Treatment Act 1995 and registered with the Infertility Treatment Authority.

Pre-Treatment Counselling

It is a regulatory requirement throughout Australia that all people requiring treatment with donor egg, donor sperm and donor embryo, and all donors must undergo counselling prior to treatment and prior to the act of donation.

All patients are required to attend counselling when undergoing infertility treatment, including people having IVF with their own eggs and sperm.

Pre-treatment counselling is an opportunity to prepare emotionally and psychologically for the challenges of the treatment ahead and to develop helpful coping mechanisms to minimise the effects associated with stress and anxiety. It gives people the opportunity to map out their own stress management plan and to work out how to best utilise the resources offered us. Our counsellor is available to offer you support and any counselling you may need throughout your treatment programme.
