Medical Director Hunter IVF
ahedges@hunterivf.com.au

Dr Hedges is a specialist in Reproductive Medicine, reproductive endocrinology, infertility and Gynaecology. He studied medicine at the University of Newcastle and has completed a Masters Postgraduate Degree in Reproductive Medicine in Sydney.

Dr Hedges trained at Royal North Shore Hospital in Sydney and spent time working in the United Kingdom. He began working in IVF in 1990 at RNS and then later at Lingard Fertility centre prior to becoming a founding Director of Hunter IVF. He ceased a busy Obstetric practice 5 years ago to concentrate on Reproductive Medicine and Gynaecology.

Dr Hedges’ areas of interest include:

  • hormonal disorders such as polycystic ovarian syndrome
  • endometriosis including advanced laparoscopic surgery
  • implantation and pregnancy loss
  • pelvic fl oor and reconstructive surgery

With 20 years experience in the field, Dr Hedges believes that it is vital to consider the individual or the couple as a whole and tailor treatment to the individual rather than the individual to the treatment. One of the strengths of Hunter IVF is the holistic approach it is able to offer people.

Newcastle is fortunate to have a world-renowned centre for research into sperm DNA damage. Dr Hedges has been fostering collaborative research in this area with the Aiken centre at the University of Newcastle and believes that this association is directly beneficial to patients of Hunter IVF.

Dr Hedges has published both nationally and internationally in his field. He provides International consultancy in IVF and together with the Scientific Director of Monash IVF, has worked to establish IVF services in Sri Lanka.

He has been awarded the Collage Medal by the Royal and New Zealand collage of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists.
